The short answer: ChatGPT for general use, Claude for coding, and Gemini if you already live in Google’s apps. As of October 2026 in South Korea, ChatGPT Plus and Google AI Pro (formerly Gemini Advanced) both cost ₩29,000 a month (about $21 at ₩1,400 per dollar, as of Oct 31, 2026). Claude Pro is billed in dollars at $22 including VAT. Over a full year, Google AI Pro is the cheapest of the three at ₩290,000 (about $207) on its annual plan.

This guide looks at how the three flagship AI subscriptions are priced and packaged for Korean users. It covers billing currency, annual options, usage limits and what each plan bundles. It is also a useful snapshot of how these companies price and limit their consumer plans outside the US.

Comparison at a glance (as of October 2026)

First, a note on naming. In its official release notes on May 20, 2025, Google retired the “Gemini Advanced” name and moved its features into the Google AI Pro subscription. If you’re looking for Gemini Advanced today, Google AI Pro is what you want.

Converted at ₩1,400 per dollar, Claude Pro’s $22 works out to about ₩30,800 a month. Your actual card charge will vary with the exchange rate and any foreign transaction fees.

ChatGPT Plus: the widest range of features

As of October 21, 2026, ChatGPT Plus costs ₩29,000 a month (about $21) on the web in Korea, including 10% VAT. You pay in won on chatgpt.com. Accepted methods include Korean credit cards, Kakao Pay (the mobile payment service from Kakao, maker of South Korea’s dominant messaging app KakaoTalk) and Naver Pay (the payment service of Naver, South Korea’s largest search portal). In the US, the same plan is $20 a month.

ChatGPT Plus stands out for how much it bundles into one subscription: image generation, voice, custom GPTs, Agent and Deep Research. The downsides are that there is no annual discount, so a full year costs ₩348,000 (about $249). OpenAI also has not officially published exact usage limit numbers for Plus.

For lighter use, ChatGPT Go at ₩13,000 a month (about $9) is an alternative. Note, though, that Go launched as a plan that includes ads.

Best for: general users paying for AI for the first time, and people who want image generation and voice in one place.

Claude Pro: for coding and long documents

In Korea, Claude Pro is listed at $22 a month, or the equivalent of $18 a month with annual billing, alongside the line “Prices include 10% VAT.” That is the US price of $20 plus 10% VAT, and it is charged in dollars, not won.

Claude Pro includes Claude Code, Anthropic’s coding tool, which is not available on the free plan. That makes the subscription especially meaningful for developers. Usage is at least 5x the free tier per session. Session limits reset every 5 hours, and there is a separate weekly limit that applies across all models. Claude Code and chat draw from the same pool, so heavy coding leaves less room for chatting.

When you hit the limit, you can wait for the reset or keep going with paid usage credits. Heavier users can step up to Max 5x ($100), with 5 times Pro’s usage, or Max 20x ($200), with 20 times.

Best for: developers, people who write and edit long pieces, and professionals who do a lot of document analysis.

Google AI Pro (formerly Gemini Advanced): for Google users and storage

According to the Google One pricing page as of October 30, 2026, Google AI Pro costs ₩29,000 a month (about $21) or ₩290,000 a year (about $207) in Korea. Choosing annual billing effectively saves two months, which makes it the cheapest of the three over a year.

Google AI Pro includes 5TB of storage, Gemini inside Gmail and Docs, Deep Research, Veo video generation, Flow, and a 1 million token context window. If you already pay for the Google One 2TB plan (₩11,900 a month, about $8.50), the real extra cost of upgrading is smaller. Once you use up your limit, conversations continue on the Flash-Lite model, and the limit refills every 5 hours.

Gemini’s free plan also offers image generation, Deep Research, Gemini Live, Canvas and Gems in limited amounts. Because of that, you may notice less of a difference when you switch to the paid plan.

Best for: heavy users of Gmail, Drive and Docs, anyone who needs more storage, and people interested in video generation.

Caveats and limitations

  • All three companies either don’t publish exact message counts or say they can change them. Limit figures that circulate on blogs shouldn’t be treated as official.
  • Because Claude Pro is billed in dollars, your monthly charge in won will shift with the exchange rate and foreign transaction fees. Check the total for annual billing directly on the checkout screen.
  • If you subscribe to ChatGPT through the mobile app, Apple or Google manages the billing, and you have to cancel through whichever store you paid with.
  • Prices change every few months. ChatGPT Go, for example, launched in Korea at ₩15,000 (about $11) and now costs ₩13,000 (about $9). All prices in this guide are as of October 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Is Gemini Advanced gone?

Yes, in name. Google’s official release notes on May 20, 2025 dropped the Gemini Advanced name and moved its features into the Google AI Pro subscription. As of October 2026, Google AI Pro costs ₩29,000 a month (about $21) or ₩290,000 a year (about $207) in Korea.

Why is Claude Pro $22 instead of $20?

Korean billing addresses are charged 10% VAT, so the US price of $20 shows up as $22. The charge is billed in dollars, not won.

Is there a discount for paying for ChatGPT Plus annually?

No. As of October 21, 2026, ChatGPT’s Go, Plus and Pro plans all support monthly billing only, and Plus costs ₩29,000 a month (about $21).

From the author’s desk

Before paying for any of these, I’d sort out what you actually do with AI in a normal week. I run my own AI-assisted development setup on Claude Code, so I know how fast a coding session can eat into a shared usage pool. That’s why I’d check how limits work before looking at price. Deciding early whether you want monthly or annual billing saves a lot of second-guessing later. I’d also start on a monthly plan, because prices and limits in this guide may change. If a team is paying, check who owns the account and how it gets cancelled, especially if someone subscribes through a phone app.
